Sunday analysis 230907

This week did not see as many events as last week but can be considered nevertheless as a relevant one. It seems that France was not fast enough to get the deal in Jordan; United States just signed an agreement to help Jordan developing its nuclear program, winning as well access to importance sources of raw uranium.

In Lebanon, the presidential elections are coming closer, which could explain the violent moves that occurred last week. A new deal is coming for the region with those elections. Christians, Sunnis and Shia are waiting for the results to see which leader is going to be elected, and which country he is going to choose as “a favorite” partner. Syria expects a pro Syrian, as well as Teheran. But I am not sure killing people like they are doing helps bringing their man to power.

This week did not see many developments in the Syrian case. IAEA has been denying the latest allegations regarding nuclear cooperation that could come from the AQ Khan network. Israel has been as well trying to quiet down things with Syria, Olmert has even been talking about holding peace talks with President Bachar Al Assad. Syria has been invited to the Middle East conference, which sounds quite normal, all the actors are needed around the table to solve the conflict, it was really astonishing that Bush administration did not do that earlier.

North Korea and Syria have been holding talks this week. Thus, even if they kept on denying any nuclear collaboration, still some analysis are shedding light on strange facts. Syria just after the bombing has been asking for a seizure of the U.N. Security Council. This never happened. Why did not they act as they say they would do. If Israel did just bomb the sand in the desert, they would not have any reason to fear inspections in the region. Or maybe they just don’t want people to come and see how beautiful the desert is. We will know more next week with the reactions to the Sunday Times.
